Goodtype has been serving up inspiration and connecting type designers, letterers, and calligraphers for almost 10 years. Now it’s time to bring our global community even closer together with an epic 3-day virtual event that celebrates our mutual love of letters. 


The Kernference
is an online conference featuring talks, workshops, and panels from the industry’s top players as well as rising talent. Whether you’re excited to get super nerdy about type and hone your skills or you’re looking to grow your career or art business…we’ve got you covered.

The mountains and waters of British Columbia serve both as a backdrop for her active lifestyle and as an endless source of inspiration for her work.

    Karin Fong

    Karin Fong is an Emmy award-winning director and designer that’s helmed iconic projects in film, television, gaming, and advertising. A founding member of Imaginary Forces, she is behind some of the most memorable title sequences in film and TV, including Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Her work expresses a love of compelling storytelling, strong concepts, and striking imagery—as well as some truly bad puns.

    Jimbo Bernaus is a lettering artist, educator, and owner of Shoutbam—a colorful design studio blending type, identity design, illustration, and playful energy. He’s collaborated with brands like Carlsberg, Stabilo, Booking.com, and Affinity, and has taught thousands through workshops, Patreon, and live sessions—both in person and online. When he’s not sketching funky serifs or making textures in Procreate, he’s probably turning travel stories into type-driven artworks.

It’s virtual! You can join from anywhere in the world.

What is A WORKSHOP PASS and is it included in my ticket?

A Workshop Pass is an optional add-on which will give you access to 3 live workshops (plus access to the replays). You can add a Workshop Pass to your Kernference ticket at checkout for $100.

Will there be replays?

Yes! Every ticket includes access to session replays for 6 months after The Kernference ends.

Who should attend?

We’ve invited a wide variety of artists to speak at The Kernference, and anyone who uses type in their work in any way will find the sessions relevant and helpful! Our lineup of speakers includes everyone from lettering artists, type designers, and calligraphers, to marketing specialists, entrepreneurs, and authors. All are welcome!

Do I need any special tools or software to attend or participate in the sessions?

Nope! Some of the speakers may reference various tools or apps that they use, but you’re not required to purchase anything to follow along! As for the conference itself—all you need is a link to join from your desktop.

How do I become a sponsor?
